Gleason, Tenn.–A Weakley County pair is charged with child abuse and neglect after a two-year-old they were supposed to be watching was found walking in the middle of a highway and was almost run over.
Nathaniel L. Noah and Samantha Jo Jones were arrested by Weakley County deputies Wednesday.
The incident began around 3 p.m. Wednesday, when deputies responded to a call about a child walking in the middle of Old State Route 22 between Gleason and McKenzie.
The two-year-old child was wearing pajamas and carrying a backpack and had almost been hit by more than one car. One of the drivers called in the report, according to Captain Randall McGowan.
Deputies determined the child came from 601 Old State Route 22. The mother had left the child with her boyfriend Nathaniel Noah and another female friend named Samantha Jones at that address while she picked up other children from school. Noah and Jones admitted they had been asleep while they were supposed to be watching the child.
