UCHS Volleyball Marks Senior Night With Sweep

Union City, Tenn.–Senior Night was a rousing success for the Union City High School volleyball team.
The Lady Tornadoes swept visiting Fulton County in both varsity and JV play Tuesday night, winning 3-0 and 2-0, respectively.
It marked the final regular season match for UC, which improved to 7-8 on the varsity side entering the postseason.
The Twister girls completed a season sweep of FC in Tuesday’s nightcap, winning 25-20, 25-16 and 25-13.
Abby Suiter delivered 13 service points and 10 kills for the Purple and Gold, while Emma Powell served up 10 points.
Aubree Keeling had 42 sets to attackers to assist 14 kills by both Anna Lynn Cheatham Kaigan Davis.
Following the varsity match, seven seniors were honored in ceremonies. They included Caroline Conley, Sydney Johnson, Aubree Keeling, Leah Beth Faulkner, Danielle Thomas, Ali Wheatley and Haley Thomas.
In the jayvee match, UC came out on top 25-12 and 25-15.
Erin Oatsvall was responsible for 16 service points and had 12 sets, while Powell had 10 service points and nine sets. Bayleigh Long had five kills and Lainey Barker chipped in with four.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
Three Union City High School girl golfers will join the Tornado boys’ golf team in next week’s Region 7 Small Division Tournament after qualifying for the second round of postseason play Tuesday.
Sloan Bearden, Abbi Nicks and Julianne Becton all were among the top individual finishers of those not on the three teams to place in the District 14 event at Persimmon Hills in Sharon.
Nicks shot 123, Becton 125 and Bearden 127 for the Lady Tornado contingent.
UC just missed advancing as a team, placing fourth, behind tourney champion McKenzie, Gibson County and Greenfield.
The regional tournament will be played Monday at the Milan Country Club, beginning at 9 a.m.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Four boys and three girls from the Union City Middle School cross country teams placed in the Top 10 in the Covington Invitational.
Conner Smith was fourth overall in the field, while Rushdon Howell placed seventh, Owen Waggoner was eighth and Maddox Dunn ninth among all boys competitors.
For the UCMS girls, Bailey Wagoner was the individual runner-up, while Ada Rogers was third and Jorge Frankum seventh.
No team scores were kept, according to head coach Katie Parr.
Union City will close out its 2019 season by competing in the Best of the West on Monday at Three Oaks Middle School.
