Martin, Tenn.–The Weakley County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a current phone scam.
According to Captain Randall McGowan, the Sheriff’s Department has received numerous calls from citizens saying they are receiving calls from someone claiming to be Detective Michael Maloan or working for the office of Michael Maloan. The caller is attempting to collect money for a sex registry violation.
McGowan said the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department wants the public to know there is no detective by that name and that the calls are an attempt to scam people out of money. He said if you receive a call like this, do not give them any information and do not send them any money.
