Paris, Tenn.–Ribbon-cutting for the newest downtown Paris mural has been set for 10 a.m. Monday, September 30.
Artist Dan Knowles and his crew of Chandon Green and Jordan Shepherd were busy over the weekend mounting the finished mural on the wall of the east alley around the court square.
The mural depicts the evolution of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the construction of Kentucky Dam, the beginning of electrification of the local area, and the creation of the Paris Board of Public Utilities, which is why the mural is located in the alley next to the BPU building on E. Washington St. One panel of the mural shows many familiar faces, depicted in their everyday activities in Paris.
The ribbon-cutting will be held in the alley and several city and state speakers will be on hand, including TVA and BPU officials. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.
The downtown murals are funded through a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
