By Tim Alsobrooks
Paris, Tenn.- Text-to-911 is coming and Henry County is ready to go when the state and phone companies give the okay.
At Monday evening’s 911 board meeting, 911 Director Mark Archer said, “We are ready on our end, we will do radio ads, ads in the paper, and let the public know when the go live date will be for text to 911.” He said Memphis, Chattanooga, Maury, and Marshall Counties are all already doing some text to 911 calls.
Archer gave updates on policies and procedures, and addressed the State GIS data.  Information Technology Director Chad Howard said they are changing the way the are doing GIS mapping at the State level and they are trying to make sure all apartments and suite numbers are right, proper routes, etc.
He also said this year’s Tennessee Emergency Number Association (TENA) conference went well again. “I think our dispatchers gain quite a bit from the conference and it will be back in Murfreesboro next year.
The 911 board also heard about some changes to the interlocal agreement with the City of Paris. Archer said the agreement has been in place since 2015 and they are changing from looking at it every five years to going year by year. It gives both the City and 911 90 days to cancel the agreement if they can’t meet obligations, etc.
