Amusement Company No Show Leaves Houston County Fair Without Rides Again

By Tim Alsobrooks
Erin, Tenn.- For the third time in the last few years, an amusement company that had promised rides at the Houston County Fair has not kept their end of the bargain.
The Houston County Fair Facebook page Thursday morning said, “We are saddened to announce that JCJ Amusements has not shown up to provide midway carnival rides for our fair this year. We have a lot of new as well as our usual favorite events happening this year and we hope you come out and enjoy the Fair.”
JCJ Amusements is from Gibonston, Florida,  and couldn’t be reached by phone for comment this morning. Searching the company online found out little information as well, but it appears they have had issues before.
Two different companies left the Houston County Fair and numerous fairs in Tennessee without rides a couple of summers ago. In 2015, Maple Leaf Amusements failed to show up in Houston County during the fair, and the very next year in 2016, Family Fun Thyme had their trucks impounded in Indiana and couldn’t get to the fair in Houston County.
The Houston County Fair gets going today (Thursday, September 19) and lasts through Saturday with plenty of other activities. Thursday gates open at 4 pm with a Chick Chain Show at 5 pm, pumpkin carving contest at 5:30 pm, opening ceremonies at 6 pm, and some pageants after that.
Friday will be a King Puck Contest, Corn Hole Tournament, and Street Truck Pull. Saturday’s events include a 5K run at 8 am, goat, hog, lamb, and steer shows, pageants, Pick TN Eating Contests, Spelling Bee, Pet Show, Tractor Driving Contest, and Greased Pig Contest. There will be fireworks culminating the Houston County Fair on Saturday night at 9pm.
Like the Houston County Fair on Facebook for a full schedule of events and times and more information on the King Puck Contest. The theme this year is Barn in the USA.
