Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office recently presented two life-saving awards to local citizens: one finding a lost child and keeping her out of harm’s way and the other who saved a woman who was having a medical emergency while driving.
Sheriff Monte Belew and Chief Deputy Damon Lowe believe that from time to time people right in Henry County can be called heroes. Two people who fit that description are Cody Rowlett and Neil Thompson.
A few weeks back Neil Thompson was at his home when a four-year-old wandered up near his home. The child appeared to have been in the woods and in a creek and was lost. Thompson took action to secure the child and make sure she was safe from any other hazards.
It was later found that the child, who lived approx. ¾ of a mile away, had left home while the mother was asleep. Belew said, “The quick actions and caring personalty of Thompson took this child out of harms way until emergency personal could arrive.”
Cody Rowlett was driving on Hwy 79N one afternoon and observed a female driver beside him who appeared to be passed out. He saw the driver run over a sign and then was headed across the four lanes of traffic into oncoming cars.
“Rowlett made a very brave and quick decision to get his vehicle in front of the lady’s vehicle” Belew said. “Rowlett let her vehicle strike his to slow and eventually stop hers. Rowlett’s quick thinking and brave actions no doubt possibly saved the lives of oncoming traffic and possibly that of the female driver.” It was later found the driver was having a medical emergency.
