Paris, Tenn.–Paris Parks and Recreation Workers Gary “Peanut” Paschall and Joel Crosno were hard at work Monday morning installing water lines to be used for the upgrades to the Atkins-Porter Dog Park.
The city of Paris received a $25,000 grant from the Randy Boyd Foundation as part of the DogParkDash competition in which the whole community participated earlier this year. Sixty communities competed for the grants. Boyd was in Paris in August to present the check to city officials.
Paschall said the water lines will be used for the water features that are being installed. Water fountains for both humans and canines will be installed at the entrance to the dog park, along with a dog washing section and sprinklers for the canines.
Paschall said one water fountain will be high, for the humans, with the other one set low, for the dogs. The sprinklers will be in ornamental fire hydrants “and you just push a button and the sprinklers come on”, he said. The dog washing section will be near the entrance, too.
Instead of mulch as it has been, the entrance will now be concrete.
Last week, workers installed the poles for the canvas that will be place on both sides of the dog park for shade. The dog park is divided into two sections–one for big dogs and the other for small dogs.
