Jury Recommends 90 Year Sentence For Mayfield Man

Mayfield, Ky.—After finding a Mayfield man guilty of assault, burglary, tampering with evidence and other charges, a Graves County Jury this week recommended he be sentenced to 90 years in prison. The man opened fire on his ex-girlfriend while she was standing on a porch holding a dog.
Bradley Morris was found guilty of first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, possession of a handgun by a felon, tampering with evidence and being a persistent felony offender.
According to the press release from Graves Co. Commonwealth Attorney Richie Kemp, the maximum sentence the defendant can receive is 70 years which is the sentence Morris is anticipated to receive at his sentencing October 15.
The jury trial followed his arrest in December of 2017. According to the press release, on December 6, 2017, Morris jumped out of the back of the rear driver’s side of a SUV on the corner of South 9th and West Oak in Mayfield. He opened fire on his recent ex-girlfriend, Kathy Bouland. Bouland was unarmed, standing on the porch, holding a small dog.

The first bullet struck Bouland in the calf. Bouland ran inside the apartment. Morris continued shooting and chased after her into the apartment. Bouland was struck in the arm as she made her way into the apartment’s small bathroom. Bouland crouched down and leaned against the door.

According to Kemp, she successfully prevented Morris from forcing his way in. Morris then fired through the bathroom door, striking Bouland for the third and final time in her knee.

Morris continued shooting through the door until his handgun was out of bullets. A witness then bravely approached Morris and successfully convinced him to leave. Law Enforcement Officers and Paramedics were on the scene soon after. An ambulance rushed Bouland to Jackson Purchase Medical Center. She was then immediately transported via helicopter to Vanderbilt Hospital.

Kemp thanked all the police officers, investigators and others who helped with the conviction of Morris. He especially thanked the witnesses “who bravely stepped forward and testified truthfully throughout this trial. Most of all, the victim Kathy Bouland—our entire office respects your courage and integrity throughout this trial.”
