Union City Tennis Courts Being Upgraded

Union City, Tenn.–The Union City tennis courts are sporting a new look, as work continues on upgrading, repairing and repainting the court to match the colors used in professional tennis today.

Union City City Council voted in August for the upgrade to the Union City Middle School tennis courts.
Brent Callicott said, “Union City known for having a very good Girls and Boys High School and Middle School Tennis programs will have a new surface to play on come next spring.” Callicott has been involved in the restoration project.

Pebbles Construction out of Memphis is overseeing the repairs which are going to be complete by the end of this week or the beginning of next week, according to Callicott.
The old color style Union City had for the Middle School courts ( six courts ) and the Fair Grounds Courts ( six courts ) was green and red. The Middle School courts, which are the courts located in the area of the Middle School and High School campuses, is where the Middle and High School teams play their matches.
Callicott said, “These courts are seeing the new color upgrade and change and the fairground courts will not be resurfaced and will remain the Green / Red color combo. The Blue Court / Green Outlay colors are the #1 color combo for Tennis and these colors are in the same family.”
He explained, “When you expose the color of a Tennis ball to these colors while in play, the vision of the ball is at its best. Yellow is in a different color family. The Blue court, green outlay colors all started back in 2005 when the U.S. Open folks in New York introduced this color. It has remained this color ever since. The City of Union City City Council allowed enough money in the city budget to have the courts reworked, patched and recolored to get them up to top quality grade. Union City is very blessed and has some of the best Tennis complex facilities in the area.”
