Buchanan, Tenn.–Paris Landing Assistant Fire Chief Tammy Hinson has retired after 28 years working in various capacities and firefighters were actually able to surprise her with retirement dinner and reception.
Fire Chief Reggie Coles told WENK/WTPR, “Tammy had no idea we were throwing a party for her. Her boys just told her they were taking her out to supper.”
Coles said Hinson was the first female firefighter with the Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department “and she went from firefighter to Lieutenant to Assistant Chief to training officer and to the board of directors.”
Firefighters held a special fish fry for Hinson, with Paris Assistant Chief Chuck Wade bringing the cookers for the meal, Coles said. “We had a big crowd, with our firefighters, Paris firefighters, EMS people, Air Evac and others who have worked with Tammy over the years.”
Hinson was presented with a plaque honoring her for “28 years of loyalty, dedication and leadership”. Her fellow firefighters signed her helmet as a memento.
Firefighters noted that Hinson had “selflessly dedicated thousands of hours to her community over those years. Everyone here would like to thank Chief Hinson for her loyal service and dedication and helping make the department what it is today.”
