SPRING CITY, Tenn. – Bethel University will have four student anglers from the Bethel Bass Team competing in the prestigious Bassmasters College Classic Bracket this week. Only the top eight anglers from Bassmasters gets to compete in this championship tournament and the prize for the winning angler is getting to fish in the Bassmasters Classic next spring.
This is the second time in the history of the Classic Bracket series one program has had four out of the eight anglers competing from the same school. Bethel University is the only college to hold that achievement.
John Garrett of Bethel won the Classic Bracket in 2016 becoming the only Collegiate Angler from his home state of Tennessee to ever fish in the Bassmasters Classic. John competed in the 2017 Bassmasters Classic against the top 55 professional Bass fishing Anglers in America.
Bethel had four Anglers in the Classic Bracket series competition in 2017 but lost out to Bryan College during the competition. This year’s event will see Cody Huff, Cole Floyd, Carter McNeil, and Garrett Enders competing for the title.
Cole Floyd and Carter McNeil won the Bassmasters College National Championship earlier this summer in Dayton TN while Garrett Enders and Cody Huff finished that tournament in third place sending all four Bethel Anglers to the Class Bracket Series. The series will be held August 27-29 on Watts Bar Lake near Spring City Tennessee.
Two team members from McKendree University in Illinois and two anglers from Bryan College in Dayton TN will also be competing for the title.
“We wish all four of the Bethel Bass Cats great success”, said Coach Garry Mason of the Bethel Bass Team. “These guys have taken on every team in the nation that fished in the Bassmasters College trail and have earned the chance to compete for the biggest prize in the sport of Bass fishing.”
