Graves County, Ky.–Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials have confirmed one deer with hemorrhagic disease in Graves Co. and are testing others.
A rainy summer followed by the recent dry period has produced ideal environmental conditions for reproduction of the biting flies that carry the Hemorrhagic Disease viruses, which affect deer. This disease can be fatal in some deer, whereas others develop resistance and pass it to their offspring. It does not affect humans or pets.
They ask that people please use report your observations of sick or dead deer that can’t be explained by road-kill or other mortality to the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. Staff may contact you about details. Their website is at fw.ky.gov
