Heat, storms win out
in golf, softball, cross country
First the heat, then the lightning and rain halted Union City’s outside fall sports activities Tuesday.
Projected high heat indexes forced the cancellation of the Tornadoes’ home-opening golf match against Gibson County just after noon.
The competition will likely be made up at a later date.
Both the UC Middle School softball game and the Tornadoes’ high school cross country meet at Dresden were a casualty of heavy rains and/or lightning that hit the area in the late afternoon Tuesday.
The cross country meet will be made up Thursday night at 6, after the UCMS runners compete in a jamboree at Dresden, beginning at 4:45 p.m.
Make-up plans for the UCMS-Dresden softball game have not been finalized.
