Curtis Ray Watson Captured

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Henning, Tenn.— Captured!
Escaped inmate and murder suspect Curtis Ray Watson was captured this morning, five days after he escaped from the West Tennessee State Penitentiary.
Sheriff Monte Belew told WENK/WTPR that the Henry County sheriff’s office team was working the scene of the search in Henning when Watson “popped out and ran into a beanfield about 500 yards away from us.”
TDOC corrections officers took custody of Watson and he was placed in a Lauderdale County sheriff’s car.
A team of six from Henry County Sheriff’s Office travelled to Henning early this morning after a confirmed sighting of Watson around 3:30 a.m. Watson’s photo was captured on a door bell camera of a Henning resident, seen in camouflage bib overalls, a cap and backpack.
With the local team were two bloodhounds: Rowdy, whose handler is Cpl. Stacey Bostwick; and Adora, whose handler is Sgt. Wayne Fuqua. Both Adora and Rowdy are experienced trackers.
Belew said, “We’re thankful that we were a part of this and we’re thankful that this dangerous felon is back in custody. Everyone in Henry County—and Lauderdale County can rest easy now.”
Belew said, “We’re headed out to get a steak and celebrate,” noting that the steak was for both the K9s and the officers.
A massive manhunt was ongoing since Wednesday for Watson, who is accused of killing TDOC Administrator Debra Johnson before his escape.
