Paris, Tenn.–Thanks to a Tourism Enhancement grant, Paris Public Works crews were busy today on the newest improvement project at the city’s Eiffel Tower.
When finished, according to City Manager Kim Foster, the upgrades will provide a circular sidewalk around the base of the Eiffel Tower, sidewalks that lead off the east and west sides of the Tower and a mini-stage area at the front. The sidewalk to be built on the tennis court side of the Tower will be ADA compliant.
Crews Tuesday began removing the gravel which currently is at the base of the Tower and will be replacing them with concrete. Work on the next stages of the project will begin immediately after that is done and the whole project should be done by fall.
Foster said the mini-stage can be used for speakers or small groups of musicians and chairs can be placed in the lawn area area the Eiffel Tower for performances.
She said the materials have been coordinated with those that will be used for the Splash Pad which will be installed by the public swimming pool at the Eiffel Tower Park. Completion of that project is projected for spring of 2020.
Interpretive signage also will be designed that encourages patrons to visit other areas of the city while they are in Paris.
