Henry Co. School Systems Upgrade Phone Lines for 911 Safety Measure

By Tim Alsobrooks
Paris, Tenn.- At Monday’s Henry County 911 Board meeting, members discussed upgrades needed for school system 911 technology.
911 Director Mark Archer said both Henry County Schools and Paris Special Schools districts are working on phone system upgrades which will allow dispatch to see which room a 911 call comes from if made at one of our schools.
Paris Elementary already has made the necessary upgrades and Inman and Rhea will follow suit once school begins.
911 Information Technology Director Chad Howard said he spoke with Henry County Schools Technology Supervisor Denton Jordan. Howard said the county will need to make a few small purchases but would do so they have the necessary technology.
Archer said making cell phone 911 calls from inside the schools works well right now even with metal buildings and roofs causing some hindrance. Archer said, “We’ve made a lot of progress, but there are still some things to do and we will get it up and running smoothly.”
Archer said he presented the resolution the board had passed opposing increasing 911 fees to the state. He said currently no 911 districts are in the red, noting, “I don’t see legislatures passing an increase on Tennessee taxpayers with the financial shape they’re all in right now.”
Archer said no other county opposed the increase in fees through a resolution.
