Paris, Tenn.—A Lexington, Tenn., woman was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center after a one-vehicle accident on Palestine Road in Paris Thursday afternoon.
Phyllis Sherwood was seriously injured in the accident and had to be extricated from her vehicle by first responders.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. at 5921 Palestine Rd. and the Vanderbilt Lifeflight helicopter landed in a yard and transported her from the accident scene to Nashville.
According to the report from the Paris Fire Department, firefighters were called to the scene on a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon arrival, they found Ms. Sherwood pinned by her shoulder by the vehicle, which was upside down in a ditch.
Fire units charged a booster line because of raw fuel leaking near the patient. High pressure air bags were put in place and the vehicle was stabilized with help from Denton’s Wrecker Service. A three-person coordinated lift was performed with the high pressure airbags and Ms. Sherwood was removed from the wrecked vehicle.
Firefighters washed the fuel off the roadway. Ms. Sherwood first was placed on a cot in the ambulance and then when Lifeflight arrived at the scene, was airlifted to Vanderbilt.
