Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man was arrested on a charge of aggravated animal cruelty after a beagle puppy in a plastic bag was found in a downtown dumpster.
Stan Wilson of Old Union Loop Rd., was arrested Friday and taken to the Henry County Jail on $5,000 bond.
According to Paris Police Captain Ricky Watson, officers took a complaint on July 8 of a beagle puppy which had been put into a plastic bag and thrown into a dumpster in the downtown area on July 3.
Watson said this was not the first time that the complainants had found a dog in a plastic bag in their dumpster, but it was the first time they found one still alive.
Watson said the puppy was taken to a local veterinary clinic where the dog passed away a short time later. During the investigation, it was determined that the puppy was put there by Wilson, Watson said.
“Mr. Wilson does raise beagle puppies and all of his other animals were in good shape and healthy,” Watson said.
Wilson’s initial court date is July 16.
