Services Set For Long-Time Carroll County Physician Dr. Jerry Atkins

Huntingdon, Tenn.–Baptist Hospital of Carroll County today announced the death of long-time physician and public servant Dr. Jerry Atkins.  Atkins served  in private medical practice and served the public on many volunteer boards. He was a physician for over 50 years. He was 82.
 
In a statement, hospital officials said, “We are very saddened at the passing of our beloved colleague, mentor and friend Dr. Jerry Atkins. He was an amazing physician and a wonderful man. As a doctor, and a member of this community he was as highly thought of as they come. He happily and lovingly served the people of Carroll County for more than 50 years. He made our community a better place. For that, we are eternally grateful. We will all miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his lovely wife Paula and his beautiful children and grandchildren.”
Dr. Jerry Franklin. Atkins of Huntingdon, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, July 9, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Dr. Atkins was born January 17, 1937 in McKenzie, Tennessee to the late Henry Atkins and Edith (Winston) Atkins.  He was a Medical Doctor in Family Practice in Huntingdon for many years, a member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church and the Lone Oak Hunting Club.
He was survived by his wife of 58 years, Paula Atkins, four sons, Dr. Kevin Atkins (Marty), Keith Atkins (Debbie), Judge Kyle Atkins (Elizabeth), all of Jackson, Kerry Atkins (Mary) of Knoxville and one sister, Betty Millrany of Jackson.  He also leaves nine grandchildren, Karter, Katie, Karrington, Neeley, Abby, Tanner, Kathryn, Meg and Harrison.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Huntingdon First United Methodist.  Rev.  Tim Atkins will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and at the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Huntingdon First United Methodist Church, 101 Asbury Circle, Huntingdon, TN  38344 or a Charity of your choice.
