HC Budget: No New Property Taxes, 2% Raise For County Personnel

By Tim Alsobrooks
Paris, Tenn.- The Henry County 2019-2020 will call for no new property taxes and includes a two percent cost of living raise for county employees.
Henry County Mayor Brent Greer presented the proposed budget at Monday night’s budget committee meeting and noted it aalso includes a $200,000 impact payment from the state of Tennessee for the loss of revenue not having the Paris Landing Inn up and running. This is the second straight year for this type of payment to the county.
Henry County Medical Center CEO Lisa Casteel appeared at the meeting and said the hospital has changed its request on payment for ambulances and has agreed to come back on a year to year basis and make requests instead of asking for a five-year committment.
Casteel will make a presentation to the full commission in September seeking to purchase one ambulance.
Greer said, “I’ve mapped out a way for us to be able to use a $20K grant from USDA to go towards that purchase and some money from debt services can be used from fund balance later in the year for the purchase, so no extra taxpayer money would be needed.”
The County commission will receive the budget Monday night, July 15, and reconvene July 30 to approve it or amend it.
