Paris Police Chief, Fire Marshal: Fireworks Prohibited In City Limits

Paris, Tenn.–On the eve of the Fourth of July holiday, Paris Police Chief Chuck Elizondo is reminding everyone that fireworks are prohibited in the City of Paris. He said violators will be cited and fireworks will be seized.
This ordinance is reprinted below:
“Paris Municipal Code 7-401 Fireworks Prohibited
The manufacture, distribution, sale, storage, possession, use, or discharge of any fireworks is expressly prohibited within the corporate limits of the City of Paris, Tennessee.”
Meanwhile, Paris Fire Marshal Greg Andrews reminds everyone of safety precautions this holiday.
The Paris Fire Department encourages our citizens to enjoy the holiday at a public display presented by trained professionals, where compliance with state-of-the-art fire codes offers a safer way to celebrate with fireworks. SHOOTING FIREWORKS INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS OF PARIS IS NO ONLY DANGEROUS BUT ILLEGAL.
Andrews said, “Our City Ordinances and Fire Code prohibit the possession and use of fireworks and for good reason. If you do live outside of the city of Paris and decide to set them off on your own, be sure to follow these important tips:
•Never allow children to handle or ignite fireworks.
•Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks.
•Never throw or point fireworks at people or animals.
•Only light fireworks outdoors on a smooth, flat surface away from homes, dry leaves and flammable materials.
•Never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned.
•Keep a form of water supply nearby in case of a malfunction or fire.
•Wear eye protection.
Following these guidelines, educating yourself and children on the dangers, and a bit of common sense will go a long way to ensuring a safe and enjoyable 4th of July celebration!”
