Update: One Dead, One Seriously Injured In Marshall Co. Wreck

Marshall County, Ky.–The driver of the semi involved in Monday’s accident that blocked a section of the Purchase Parkway in Marshall County for several hours was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck which collided with the semi was seriously injured.
According to the preliminary report issued by the Marshall County sheriff’s office, Brian K. Chappell, of Livermore, KY, was operating a semi loaded with crushed cars and traveling south on I-69. The semi entered the median then came back up onto the highway where it then overturned. Both southbound lanes were blocked from the trailer.
Philip Givans of Gilbertsville, KY, was also traveling south on I-69. Givans was unable to stop in time and collided with the trailer that was overturned. Chappell was pronounced dead at the scene and Givans was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
With a fuel spill also involved, the section of the highway was closed for several hours.  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the West Marshall FD, Palma Briensburg FD, Marshall County EMS, Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Green’s Wrecker Service, Bailey’s Wrecker Service, Marshall County Rescue, and Marshall County Emergency Management.
