UC Man Jailed After Knife-Wielding Incidents At Local Businesses

Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man is in the Obion County Jail today after his arrest after allegedly wielding knives at patrons at two businesses Monday night.
Brian Byers, age 48, of 614 W. Washington Ave., is charged with aggravated assault, possession of cocaine and theft after the incident which began at Lowe’s and moved to McDonald’s, where he was arrested.
Police were called to Lowe’s on a report that a man wielding a knife had just left the store. After a search, officers, found the man inside McDonald’s.
According to the report, Byers seemed to be under the influence of an unknown substance and that he was sweating profusely and in a state of paranoia.
Eyewitnesses told the officer that Byers had displayed the knife in a threatening manner to a customer at McDonald’s.
Two Craftsmen knives were found on Byers and both were found to be stolen from Lowe’s.
Obion Co. EMS was called to the scene and transported Byers to Baptist Hospital ER for treatment after which he was transported to the jail.
