Dyersburg Man Charged With Murder In Case Involving Crowd Interference, Firebombing

Dyersburg, Tenn.–Dyersburg Police have charged a 25-year-old man with murder in a shooting death that occured earlier in June. The case involved crowd interference with the shooting scene and a firebombing that occurred in the wake of the shooting.
Police arrested Demetrice Livingston of Dyersburg with the murder of Demarko Robertson on June 10 on Liberty Street.
Detectives developed Livingston as a person of interest early into the investigation. Livingston has been in custody since June 14, for failure to appear in Dyersburg City Court, and a fail to appear in Dyer County Circuit Court.
Dyersburg Police Chief Steve Isbell recounted the difficulties officers faced at the shooting scene. “Responding officers on the night of the shooting investigation were met with uncooperative witnesses. Some of those same individuals yelled profanities at the officers who were there trying to save a man’s life by administering first aid, and determine who was responsible for the shooting. Our officers were faced with a man who was dying in front of them while dealing with a hostile crowd not knowing if the shooter was still on the scene. I am very proud of the patrol officers, their response, and actions during this very hectic and tense situation. Detectives have worked on this murder investigation non-stop, and I am very proud of their hard work and dedication solving this homicide.”
Isbell said a firebombing of a residence in the wake of the shooting is being investigated.

“There were individuals who knew who committed this act of violence, yet chose to remain silent. Instead someone chose to seek retaliation and firebombed the residence of a family member of the alleged shooter hours following the shooting. On June 11, at approximately 5:07 a.m., the residence was occupied by several individuals who escaped through a window when they heard a loud noise, and observed the house to be on fire. The residence and vehicle was damaged but no injuries were reported. The suspected arson remains under investigation by the State Arson Investigator, Dyersburg Police, and Dyersburg Fire Department.”
