Springville, Tenn.–The Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting a free concert Friday off the back patio of the visitor center located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville.
The concert is part of the Tennessee River Jam festival weekend sponsored by the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce and Forever Communications. The refuge concert happens on Friday June 28 from 5 -7 pm where the band “Cherry Avenue” will be performing live with a back drop of a beautiful bay of Kentucky Lake. Based out of Nashville, Cherry Avenue is a country music group as classic as cherry pie with the modern precision of a 747. With ties to Bethel University, Adam Catt and Erika Blake’s blend of music promises for a very pleasant evening.
The refuge visitor center will open beginning at 8 am and features state of the art exhibits, an auditorium movie center, demonstration pollinator garden and nearby hiking trails. The Blue Heron Book store will also be open and features nature oriented books and field guides, t-shirts, hats, mugs and other nature oriented gifts and children’s items.
Concert attendees need to bring their own lawn chairs, or a picnic blanket and possibly a little insect repellent to enjoy the evening. For dinner, the Henry County Sheriff’s office will be grilling marinated ribeye and chicken sandwich meals from 4 to 7 pm. For a donation of $10, the meal includes a hoagie bun sandwich, chips, drink and cookies. All proceeds will benefit the Environmental Education program at the refuge that brings over 3,000 school children to the refuge each year for full day field trips. It also provides professional development training for local teachers that instruct students about the environment.
Sponsored by the Friends of Tennessee NWR, the day will include some pre-concert activities beginning at 1 pm. Ranger guided hikes will be at 1 and 3 pm meeting at the Visitor Center. An archery range, as well as children’s fun and games will be available from 1:00 – 4:30 pm.
There will be no need at RSVP, just come on down and enjoy the fun at your national wildlife refuge. For more information, please contact the refuge office at 731-642-2091.
