Paris, Tenn.—A Paris man was arrested for attempted second-degree murder, charged with stabbing another man outside a downtown bar and grill early Saturday morning.
Paris Police Plt. David Beauvais arrested Jason Raspberry, age 43, on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and domestic assault.
Beauvais was dispatched to RJ’s Lounge on Brewer Street and when he arrived at the scene, witnesses pointed to the car that Raspberry had gotten into and said he had been attempting to leave. According to the report, witnesses told him that the suspect was in the back seat of the vehicle.
According to the report, Raspberry was uncooperative and that Beauvais detained him while he spoke with witnesses. Beauvais said in the report he could smell a strong odor of alcohol from Raspberry.
Witnesses told Beauvais that the victim had already gone to the hospital and that Raspberry had tried to stab the victim in the neck, but the victim had protected his neck and had been stabbed in the hand.
Witnesses told officers that Raspberry became confrontational with a woman and another man outside the bar and grill. The victim got in his truck with the woman and he was attempting to leave when his truck stalled. One of the female passengers inside of the victim’s truck told officers that when the victim’s truck stalled she saw Raspberry run towards the truck with a knife, where he began to stab the victim multiple times.
Two bystanders observed the assault and they were able to pull Raspberry off of the other man and they were able to get Raspberry to drop the knife. Beauvais’ report stated that the victim did sustain several lacerations on his hand. Raspberry was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses.
Raspberry’s bond was set at $150,000 and he is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Henry County General Sessions Court.
