Arrest Of Mayfield Men On Drug Charges Involves Scuffle With Officers

Mayfield, Ky.—Two Mayfield men were arrested on numerous drug charges during a search of their home Wednesday that involved a scuffle with officers.
Graves County Sheriff’s detectives, in cooperation with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department Drug Enforcement Unit, obtained a search warrant to search a residence located at 825 North 11th Street in Mayfield.
Intelligence gathered indicated that illegal drug sales of meth were occurring at this location, and had been ongoing for some period of time.
Arrested were David McCampbell, age 62, and Dustin Blake, age 32.
Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden, Detectives Brooke Nelms, Sgt. Richard Edwards, Sheriff Jon Hayden, and three McCracken Co. Sheriff’s detectives made entry into the home at about 3:55 PM, Wednesday.
According to the press release, Detectives located McCampbell in a bedroom, packages containing Methamphetamine were found scattered all about the room he was in as well as other areas of the home.
Detectives then encountered another suspect who had run and was attempted to flee out of the back of the house. He was identified as being Blake, who fought with deputies for a period of time attempting to hit Det. Brooke Nelms.
Both Detective Brooke Nelms and Capt. Jesse Riddle of the McCracken Sheriff’s Department received minor injuries in the attempt to take Blake into custody. Methamphetamine was scattered on the floor also in this area of the home.
During the scuffle with Blake, a McCracken Sheriff’s detective from a position outside the home saw a semi automatic pistol being thrown out the front door into the front yard. McCampbell was identified as apparently grabbing the pistol as officers were in a physical alteration with Blake in another room.
Methamphetamine was located in various locations throughout the home, numerous used syringes containing suspected Methamphetamine, and other related items including electronic scales that were being used to weigh the drug meth Pipes, and the semi automatic handgun.
Sheriff’s detectives called EMS to the scene had suspect Dustin Blake transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries he sustained the attempted assault of the officers. Both Det. Nelms and Capt. Riddle were also treated for minor injuries they suffered.
Blake and McCampbell both have extensive criminal histories.
David L. McCampbell has criminal convictions for Assault, 1st Degree Robbery, Burglary, Assault 1st Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, Possession of Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Abuse of a Corpse, and others.
Dustin D. Blake has criminal convictions for numerous assaults, Wanton Endangerment, Meth possession, Receiving Stolen Property, Criminal Mischief, Bail Jumping, felony Theft, and others.
Current charges are:
Blake: Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Assault 3rd Degree 2 counts, Resisting Arrest, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Possession of Marijuana.
McCampbell: Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Both suspects were lodged Wednesday evening at the Graves County Jail.
 
The investigation is continuing.
