Paris, Tenn.—The Henry County Commission Monday evening authorized issuance of capital outlay notes not to exceed $425,000 for two projects—the county’s emergency radio project and the move and renovation of the county elections commission.
At the outset of the meeting, a special invocation for the late Connie McSwain was read by County Commissioner Rev. James Travis. McSwain was a long-time commissioner and W.G. Library Director who died Monday. Travis spoke of McSwain’s service to the community and her generosity.
The commission had heard presentations on both the radio and elections commission projects at meetings earlier this year.
Due to space constraints at the current elections office, it will be moved to Weston Hall and County Mayor Brent Greer said the estimated cost for renovation of two former classrooms in Weston Hall will cost some $60,000.
In April, the commission set the wheels in motion for the county emergency radio project following a presentation by 911 Director Mark Archer and County Emergency Management Director Ron Watkins. The purpose of the joint project with the city of Paris and county will create a new and improved public safety communications network.
Greer said after the meeting the bulk of the capital outlay will go to the radio project and noted the meeting authorized Monday night is for the first of two phases. He said debt service revenue will be enough without any increase.
