Graves Co. Missing Persons Case Reopened; Deputies Search Property

Graves County, Ky.—Graves County Sheriff’s investigators have reopened a missing persons case from 2005.
Sandra Travis went missing 14 years ago from her home south of Mayfield. She was reported missing by her husband Bobby Gene Travis August 1 2005, when she was 59 years old. She would be 72 now.
After discussion between Graves County Attorney John Cunningham and Sheriff Jon Hayden, legal access was gained to the abandoned residence at 2800 West Slaughter Road and investigators searched the area, using a backhoe to dig up an area where evidence reportedly would be located.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, her husband reported her missing on August 21, but said she actually had been missing since July 17, but he hadn’t reported it.
He told investigators at the time that the last time he saw her, she was getting into a white semi with a man who was not identified. He said the semi was in the driveway of their residence.
Their residence was abandoned soon after that and most of their belongings were left behind. According to the press release, the property has grown up so much with vegetation that it wasn’t visible from the roadway anymore.
At the meeting between Hayden and Cunningham, old missing persons cases were discussed. It was learned at the meeting that soon after Mrs. Travis’ disappearance, a large concrete paid was poured by hand in front of the residence.
Her husband died in 2014 at age 64.
The sheriff’s office obtained legal access to the property at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13. With a backhoe, the concrete slab was pulled up and the area checked for any possible signs of Mrs. Travis, but none were found. The slab was roughly 12 feet by 20 feet.
The sheriff’s office has released information on Mrs. Travis and seeks the public’s help.
The Graves Co. Sheriff’s Office is hoping that anyone with information will come forward. You can contact the Graves County Sheriff’s Office at 270 247-4501, or contact your local law enforcement agency.
The Graves County Road Department assisted in the detail with the needed equipment.
