Henry Co. Man Arrested On Assault Charges Over Dog Shooting Dispute

By Cassie Walsh
Mansfield, Tenn.- A Mansfield man was arrested on multiple assault charges on Friday after a dispute about a dog escalated and resulted in one man threatening to shoot another man.
Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Gary Carroll arrested Robert Torka, age 49, of 2591 Bear Creek Road of Mansfield for two counts of aggravated assault and public intoxication.
Earlier on Friday, Carroll responded to Bear Creek Road after a dispute between Torka and another man had erupted after the other man had shot Torka’s dog with a BB gun after Torka’s dog had attacked several of the other man’s animals.
When officers arrived at the scene they did check Torka’s dog, which did had a small cut from the BB gun on its ear following the incident. Police explained to Torka that his dogs were running loose and they needed to be on a leash. Both men told officers that no further incidents would happen.
Later on Friday night, Carroll, Henry County Sheriffs Investigator Bryan Hall and several Tennessee Highway Patrol Units were dispatched to the Bear Creek Road residence in reference to Torka who was threatening to shoot the other man following the incident with Torka’s dog.
When officers arrived at the scene they spoke with witnesses, who said that one man went outside after he heard a dog barking which is when he saw Torka standing in the yard with a rifle and pistol. The man told officers that Torka was very intoxicated and Torka then threatened to shoot him for shooting Torka’s dog earlier in the day.
When officers arrived Torka complied with police and was placed under arrest for the following offenses.
Torka’s bond was set at $10,000. He is scheduled to appear June 14 in Henry County General Sessions Court.
