UC Man Charged In Shooting; Victim Airlifted To Regional One

Union City, Tenn.–A Union City man has been arrested on a charge of attempted second degree murder and a Memphis man was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in Memphis following a shooting Tuesday night.
Joseph Granger, age 27, is being held in the Obion Co. Jail on the charge. His arraignment is set for Thursday, June 6.
The victim, Cedric Branch, age 41, was transported by ambulance to the Baptist Memorial helipad in Union City, from which he was transferred to Regional One in Memphis by Air Evac.
According to a press release from the Union City Police, officers were dispatched to Nash Street in the
area of East Gate around 8:15 p.m. in reference to a disturbance. Officer Robbie Orsborne and Corporal
Josh Lovell were the first units on scene.
Upon arrival, Officer Orsborne observed males fighting in the street. As Officer Orsborne drove closer, he witnessed one of the males later identified as Joseph Granger shoot multiple times at the victim, Cedric Branch Jr. Officer Orsborne immediately exited his patrol vehicle as the last shot was being fired at Branch. Branch fell
to the ground as Officer Orsborne engaged Granger, who was still in possession of the gun.
According to the press release, Granger did not appear to notice officers had arrived on scene. Granger turned
to run towards Officer Orsborne. Officer Orsborne was able to gain Granger’s attention, ordering Mr. Granger to drop the gun. Granger immediately complied and was taken into custody.
Branch had been shot multiple times. Sgt. Tack Simmons did render first aid on Branch until the ambulance crew arrived.
