Union City, Tenn.–Union City Middle School teacher Lindsay Walker has been chosen to participate in the second class of WestTeach this fall.
WestTeach is a five-day development program for teachers in 21 West Tennessee counties that gives those involved an insight into the economic needs and opportunities in West Tennessee and also builds links with industry and community leaders.
The program — created by WestStar – additionally gives teachers an out-of-the-classroom view of students’ lives from community child resource agents.
Union City Middle School Principal Lance Morgan nominated Walker for the program, which could include as many as 30 teachers from across West Tennessee. Selection was based on leadership achievements and potential to contribute to the region’s educational system.
Walker is a 2002 UCHS graduate and just completed her fourth year teaching in the Union City School System.
The WestTeach program is open to West Tennessee teachers in Grades K-12 who aspire to be leaders in their schools and communities.
The group is scheduled to meet five times this fall, the first Aug. 26 in Martin when West Tennessee agriculture will be the topic.
Other focuses will be Entrepreneurship in West Tennessee (Aug. 27 in Union City); the Humanity of Leadership (Sept. 24 in Jackson); Creating partnership for economic development (Oct. 29 in Dyersburg); and Industries Tours/Building Communities (Nov. 26 in Brownsville).
A graduation banquet is set for Jan. 28, 2020.
Sponsors of the class include West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, Alexander, Thompson, Arnold PLLC, Security Bank of Dyersburg, SIC Management and Twin Oaks Technology.
