Animals Rescued In Carroll, Putnam County Cases Now Available For Adoption

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Carroll County, Tenn.–With the legal case involving the animal rescues in Carroll and Putnam Counties resolved—for the most part—the animals can now be adopted to permanent homes.

Officials with Washington, D.C.-based Animal Rescue Corps, which oversaw the rescues in both cases, said people all across the country have been inquiring about adopting the animals since the cases began. The nearly 200 animals rescued have been cared for while the case was ongoing by rescue operations in Nashville and Jackson.
In late May, Carroll County Circuit Court Judge Donald Parish ordered that the Atwood couple who were charged with hundreds of counts of animal abuse will be banned from owning or possessing animals for 10 years.
Tara Nuetzler and Donald Schoenthal entered a plea agreement to the charges of aggravated animal cruelty and animal cruelty and they agreed to surrender their animals from both the Carroll and Putnam County cases. The couple will be sentenced in July.

In April of 2018, over 150 animals in various stages of illness were seized from the couple’s Atwood home and in May, another 40 were seized from property they own in Putnam County.

Animal Rescue Corps officials said Monday that the animals rescued in Operation Noah’s Ark (the Carroll County case) and Operation Storm’s End (the Putnam County case) “are finally making their way to our placement partners all across the country.”
“We are so grateful to our supporters and volunteers who have helped us make this day a reality,”, they said.
