Paris, Tenn.–Come hear tales of historic figures whose mortal remains reside in the historic Paris City Cemetery for this year’s “Tales From The Crypt”, set for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Last year was the first time for the tour and the response was overwhelming, with hundreds in attendance.
Learn about the famous (and infamous) movers and shakers of the city of Paris and county of Henry whose final resting place is in the city’s oldest cemetery.
Historic figures who will be portrayed include Congressman John Wesley Crockett, E.W. Grove, Crete Mitchell (for whom Crete Opera House was named), the Cavitt family, Governor James A. Porter. Plus, the history of the African-American graves in the cemetery will be told.
As you walk the cemetery’s paths to the various grave sites, you will encounter the historic figures (or more precisely their present-day story tellers) as they relate the facts about their lives. Join the Henry Co. Cemetery Committee and the Downtown Paris Association for this unique tour through history and help to fund the continued repairs for the cemetery.
Donations to the fund will be gratefully accepted.
