Local Agencies Participate In Hardin County Drug Sweep

SAVANNAH – A multi-agency operation led by Special Agents of the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation focusing on illegal drug and gang activity in Hardin County has resulted in the arrest of 28 individuals.
Participating agencies included three local law enforcement agencies: Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office, Puryear Police and McKenzie Police. Included in the Henry County contingent was Deputy Ricky Wade and his K9 Viper.
The charges range from weapons counts to drug possession to outstanding warrants and probation violations.  In addition, various illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, three firearms and a vehicle were seized.

The saturation operation Wednesday within the city of Savannah and Hardin County was conducted in response to a recent increase in crime within the county, often by those who come from outside of Hardin County.  Approximately 80 law enforcement officers from 17 local, state and federal agencies participated in the saturation:  TBI, Savannah Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 24th Judicial Drug Task Force, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics, Tennessee Department of Corrections Office of Investigations and Compliance, TDOC Probation and Patrol Division, Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force – US Marshal Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Puryear Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and McKenzie Police Department.

“We are grateful to all of the agencies who assisted with this operation to keep our county safe,” said Hardin County Sheriff Johnny Alexander.  “We ask our citizens to help continue this effort by reporting any criminal activity, which can be done anonymously through our website.”  Savannah Police Chief Michael Pitts added, “We are especially grateful to the TBI for planning and executing this saturation.  This is a great example of how law enforcement in West Tennessee can work together to make a difference.”

The operation involved officers serving warrants, making traffic stops and conducting compliance checks with individuals on parole and probation in the city and county.  Those arrested were booked into the Hardin County Jail.
