Dover, Tenn.—Stewart County Director of Schools Leta Jo Joiner has been placed on leave by the board of education in the wake of her DUI arrest earlier this month.
Earlier, Federal Programs Supervisor Tracy Watson was named Interim Director of Schools for an indefinite period.
Joiner was scheduled to appear in the local court Tuesday, but choose to have an attorney appear in her place and waived her arraignment.
Joiner, age 57, of Big Rock, was arrested May 7 by the Tennessee Highway Patrol on misdemeanor charges of DUI and failure to exercise due care. According to the THP report, Joiner left the scene of the wreck that led to the arrest.
Her next court date is August 27.
