Hickman, Ky.—The family of a Hickman policeman who drowned while on duty last year has filed a lawsuit against Fulton County.
The estate of the late Officer Rodney Smith filed the lawsuit against the Fulton County Fiscal Court on behalf of his widow, Margaret Smith and two children. It was filed in Fulton County Circuit Court by Mayfield Attorney Royce Smith.
Smith drowned in his patrol car which had been swept away by flood waters into a flooded field. The lawsuit claimed that the roads were to be maintained by the county and that there were no warnings of danger posted on the roadway.
A trial by jury is requested by the family.
