Paris, Tenn.–It was an old-fashioned pickin’ party with the musicians of the newly-formed West Tennessee Players Resource Friday night and what better way to hold their inaugural public performance than in the woods at Eiffel Tower Park?
The group–whose acronym is WTPR–is made up of numerous West Tennessee musicians who are located in the legendary radio station’s former station on Brewer Street.
Tom Westhoven told the audience, “We’re here because we want to show you what we do and to welcome you to come and watch us and enjoy the music. Anytime you’re out and about on a Monday or Friday night, just come on down and sit with us and listen to music. Everybody is welcome”.
The group played a mixture of country, bluegrass, gospel, rock n’ roll and some of them played their own tunes.
John Douglass said the group had decided it would be a community group “and instead of having a president or a person in charge, we would all make the decisions for the group.” He said the group will be pursuing a 501c designation.
Radio Station WENK/WTPR is now located at 216 N. Poplar St., Paris.
