Paris, Tenn.–It was a big day for the Paris Quota Club–and eight local students–as the club presented $1,000 scholarships to each to either begin or continue their advanced studies.
For the Quota Club, Scholarship Committee Chair Suzanne Richter said, “It’s a labor of love” that involves a lot of hard work and donations from the community to allow Quota members to raise the scholarship funds each year.
Quota President Kayla Nation recounted the ways that Quota uses to raise the funds, including selling burgers at Noon on the Square, the annual Easter Bake Sale and–of course–by selling Quota pecans each year. She noted that other fundraisers such as the ‘Ladies’ Night Out’ events involve a lot of community donations and support. “Our ladies are just so glad we can offer these scholarships,” she said.
Of the eight scholarships, three were presented to three Henry Co. High School Seniors and five to returning college students. Each was presented to the group by a Quota member and each student spoke of their gratitude for the scholarships. Parents–and sometimes grandparents–of the students were in attendance for the presentations.
Receiving scholarships are: Chase Wyrick, Blake Kennedy, Savannah Hunt, Julia Hendrix, Brianna Ross, Laynee Thornton, Nathan Robertson and Hunter Lacy.
Of those, Lacy, Robertson, Thornton, Ross, and Hendrix are returning college students. Thornton and Ross could not attend in person.
Richter noted how impressive the selected students are. “This is a special day when we invest in our youth,” she said. It’s important for Quota to support the students, she said, “so they know they matter enough for us to invest in them.”
There were a total of 22 applicants for the scholarships, she said.
