The Dixie School Time Performance Series Enchants Area Students From 13 Counties

Huntingdon, Tenn.–The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center took learning outside of the classroom for over 6,000 students this school year during The Dixie’s annually anticipated School Time Performance Series.
A total 48 schools and nine homeschool groups from 13 counties around the West Tennessee area were
transported to different places and times as they experienced 6 treasured pieces of classic literature and
musical performances.
This year’s School Time Performance Series was comprised of 16 showtimes for well-loved gems like
Charlotte’s Web, an adaptation of the Dr. Suess classic The Cat in the Hat, Mark Twain’s The Adventures
of Tom Sawyer, The Hungry Caterpillar, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and UT
Martin’s Showcase Concert.
But that’s not all.  Students were provided with an exciting comprehensive learning experience through
The Dixie.  Attending classes received special visits from Trudy Radford, Educational Programs
Coordinator at The Dixie and the performance sponsors. These special visitors read to students,
exposing them to the literature prior to the performance. Additionally, teachers were provided with study
guides to help students get the most out of their learning experiences.  To make sure the learning
continued long after the shows were over, performance sponsors provided a copy of the book the
students experienced to the school’s library.
Dixie Executive Director Lori Neal Nolen said, “We are so thankful to provide this Academic
Enrichment opportunity to our children. The School Time Performance Series are partially funded by
grants from The Tennessee Arts Commission and made possible from generous contributions by Dixie
sponsors.
This year’s sponsors included Espey Oil Co. & Espey Gin, FirstBank, Huntingdon Insurance,
Maddox Insurance, Renfroe Farms, Southern Chiropractic, Tippitt Farms and Tosh Farms. Thank you to
all of these amazing supporters for their impact on educating our children through the arts.”
