Huntingdon, Tenn.–The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center is presenting recent works by one of our own art instructors, Candace Gooch-Ward. Her works of pottery will be on display in the Ballroom Gallery until July 27.
An artist reception with light refreshments will held on June 13, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., and the
artist will speak about her work. This event is free and open to the public.
Candace Gooch-Ward grew up on her family’s fourth-generation farm in rural West Tennessee, bordering the
beautiful woodlands of Natchez Trace State Park. She is a graduate of Clarksburg High School, and she has a
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Union University. Currently, she operates her own personal studio out of her
home in Jackson, TN and works as the Pottery Instructor at Mudslingers Studio, an Annex of The Dixie.
While attending college in 2012, Candace found herself seated at a pottery workshop, watching as a master potter
deftly coaxed vessel after vessel from a centered mound of clay atop his wheel. She was transfixed, both by the clay
and the lifestyle that this potter professed, and this was her turning point. In her own words, Candace says “I make
these objects of utility for the everyday, hoping to offer others a genuine and meaningful experience in the midst of
their daily lives; to elevate an ordinary moment or a mundane routine to that of a beautiful, enjoyable act through the use of the handmade.” For questions about this or upcoming exhibits, please contact Laura at ldeville@dixiepac.net.
