Union City, Tenn.–An 18-year-old was arrested on a charge of attempted second-degree murder after a shooting last night in Union City. And police officials said he is the same young man who was recently released on his own recognizance following an assault on a local judge.
Arrested was Jarmarland Marsh. He is charged with criminal attempt to commit second degree murder. Marsh had recently been released on an own recognizance bond through General Sessions, on the
charge of aggravated assault against Juvenile Judge Sam Nailing. The assault involving Judge
Nailing took place during a Juvenile Court proceeding that occurred on May 10.
Regarding the incident Thursday night, at approximately 11:36 pm Thursday evening, officers with the Union City Police Department were dispatched to 1423 East Church Street in reference to a subject that had been
shot.
On arrival, officers located the victim, Cleven Westbrook, lying on the front porch of the
residence. Officers observed that Westbrook had been shot in the left side of his torso.
He was treated by EMS at the scene and transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital, where he was
airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment.
The investigation led to the suspect Jarmarland Marsh. Witness statements revealed
Mr. Marsh shot Mr. Westbrook during an altercation.
