Jackson, Tenn.–A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was killed this afternoon in a crash on Interstate 40 in Madison Co.
At a press conference Monday night, THP officials said, “Today, we suffered a heartbreaking loss of one of our own. Trooper Matthew Gatti of @THPMemphis was killed in a car crash while responding to a call. We ask that you please keep Trooper Gatti, his family and friends in your hearts and prayers during this time.’
Madison County Commissioner Jeff Wall posted on his Facebook page, “Today one of our own was killed in a line of duty death. Our hearts are with our Tennessee Highway Patrol family.
Please keep all of our officers in your prayers today and every day. These men and women leave home everyday with one focus – our wellbeing – without the promise of returning home.
Many prayers and much love to you all.”
The crash occurred near mile marker 74 on the eastbound side of the interstate. Tennessee Highway Patrol remains at the scene and traffic is being diverted to Highway 70 at exit 66 eastbound.
