Union City, Tenn.–Mother Nature 3, Union City spring sports 0.
Rain, inclement weather and the threaten of such wiped out the spring sports calendar for UC teams and athletes Thursday.
Rescheduling began immediately after the postponements.
The Union City Rotary Relays running finals have been re-set for today at 4 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
Events will include the 4X800 relay for both girls and boys, the 100 meter and 100 meter hurdles, the girls and boys 400 and 800 meter runs and the 200 meter run.
There will be three other relay races as well.
The Union City boys lead the 15-team event and the girls are second after Day 1 of the competition Tuesday that included the field events, some hurdles races and long-distance runs.
The Division I Small School Northwest Subsectionals are scheduled for Tuesday at Dave Shatz track.
UC will honor its seniors at that event, sometime between the field events and running finals.
Both the District 13A Baseball and Softball Tournaments got one game in, but had another postponed after Thursday’s weather issues.
The Tornado softball team had its game against Bradford stopped in the bottom of the first inning, tied at 0-0, at Eddlemon/Hawks Field.
The contest will be resumed today at 5 p.m., with the victor moving into Monday’s winners’ bracket final to face top seed South Fulton. The Devilettes beat Gleason 7-2 Thursday before the rains came.
In baseball, Union City had its first round game, scheduled for today at 5, moved back to 6:30 after the second of Thursday’s two games was postponed.
The Tornadoes will play South Fulton at Elam Stadium after Greenfield and Bradford meet in a postponed game. SF edged Dresden Thursday 3-1.
And, finally, the Union City Middle School tennis teams had their regular season finale called off early Thursday, due to the threat of inclement weather.
