Federal Jury Convicts Fulton Co. Jailer

Paducah, Ky.—A Fulton County deputy jailer has been found guilty of assaulting an inmate. James Eakes, age 54, was found guilty of a civil rights violation by repeatedly tasing an inmate.
According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Eakes was found guilty by a federal grand jury and could face up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing is set for August.

Evidence and testimony indicated that the Fulton Co. Detention Center guards removed clothing and possessions from an inmate’s cell after the inmate indicated he was suicidal. The inmate then cursed at Eakes, who then ordered the cell door opened and tasered the inmate, continuing twice more as the inmate slumped against the cell wall.
