Paris, Tenn.—Beautification of the West Alley in downtown Paris continues with the construction of an aluminum Eiffel Tower by Paris Artist Dan Knowles.
The Eiffel Tower will be placed between the two newest murals which depict a pictorial history of Paris and which also were created by Knowles.
Knowles will be decorating the Eiffel Tower with objects that are meaningful to the community and is asking for donations.
For instance, he will be incorporating an old microphone which will represent the importance that radio station WTPR has played in the community. WTPR went on the air in 1947 from the building on the corner of Wood and Market Streets that is adjacent to the new Eiffel Tower statue.
Knowles said, “I would like to build this to truly speak of our community. With this in mind, if you have metal objects which represent our town which you would like to donate to be part of this work, please contact me.” Brass, copper and aluminum are preferred.
Knowles said if there is a story associated with the object, please include it with the donation.
The Eiffel Tower statue is finally beginning to take shape, Knowles said, noting that he is building it out of aluminum and brazing it together. Knowles originally began building it from fiberglass, but scrapped that plan and he noted that the metal is supplied to Copeland Metals.
Knowles can be contacted through his Facebook page.
He is constructing the Eiffel Tower statue in his shop located in downtown Paris and it will be moved to the West Alley in the coming months.
