Four-Year-Old Boy Killed In Benton Co. Accident; Driver Arrested

Camden, Tenn.—A four-year-old boy was killed and a Big Sandy man jailed on an aggravated vehicular homicide charge following a two-vehicle accident Saturday night in Benton Co.
James Greer, age 52, is being held in the Benton Co. Jail without bond today. He was released from jail on Wednesday on other charges.
Four people were injured in the accident, including a 10-year-old boy and a five-year-old boy, and Greer. Greer was taken to jail after being treated at the local hospital. Benton Co. Sheriff Kenny Christopher told WENK/WTPR other charges are pending against Greer.
The other driver, Robert Green, age 87, of Camden, also was injured.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Brad Wilbanks, the accident occurred around 10 p.m. on State Hwy. 191 at the intersection with Shiloh Church Rd.
Greer was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer SUV east on Shiloh Church Rd. and Green was driving a Toyota van south on Hwy. 191 when Greer ran a stop sign and struck Green’s van.
An adult passenger in Greer’s vehicle, Leslie Hooper, age 42, of Big Sandy, was not injured. She was transported to the Humphreys County Jail on pending charges.
A passenger in Green’s van, Betty Green, age 85, was not injured.
According to the THP report, at least one of the children was not wearing a child restraint. The report does not indicate whether restraints were used for the other two children in the vehicle.
