Paris, Tenn.–At its annual meeting this week, the W.G. Rhea Friends of the Library elected officers and directors, as well as reviewed achievements and looked ahead to future plans.
Officers were re-elected: President Susan Pemberton, Vice President Jim Lacey, Treasurer Oma Bass and Secretary Carol Mannon. Five directors were approved: Martha Downing, Barbara Hyde, Susan Stewart, Stephanie Tayloe and new Director Bill Perkins, who replaces Denise Evans who resigned after several years on the board.
Pemberton reviewed the year’s achievements, which included several fundraising events, purchase of a lamination machine which is available to the public, purchase of DVDs and subscriptions for the library, funding four wi-fi Hot Spots which are available to the public, and funding for a portrait of retired long-time Library Director Connie McSwain.
Future plans are the creation of a quarterly Book Discussion Club, plans for evening speaker programs, redecoration of Children’s Room, and replace older office furniture in the library.
A reception was held and members also could peruse the Friends Bookstore and take two free books. Bookstore Manager Darcy Louer and volunteers are busily preparing for the spring sale in May.
