Plans Begin For Atkins-Porter Community Park Botanical Garden

Paris, Tenn.–Members of the Atkins-Porter Community Park committee met this week to discuss plans for the park and botanical garden that is being created. The park at 311 Jackson St. already has a pavilion, electrical wiring receptacles and ceiling fan, along with a curved path made of pavers.
Committee Chair River Byrd said he will be planting seven trees of different varieties including Japanese maple, dogwood, and red bud that would require little maintenance. Landscaping with mulch and stone will be done.
People in the neighborhood are invited to donate native and heirloom plants that are from the Atkins-Porter Neighborhood for inclusion in the botanical garden. Byrd said he would like to know which plants people would like to donate so that he can begin the design of the garden. Byrd can be contacted through the Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Facebook page.
